成立生物材料資源保存中心，針對檢驗科所分離並鑑定完成的病原株，建制一套資訊化管理模式和訂定生物保全管理規範，可進一步提供臨床醫師於治療方面資訊之所需；並且給予有興趣的研究人員關於檢體樣本資訊之索引，將其推展到院內感染管制層面的實際需求及運用。實驗室之研究特色主要發展脈衝式電泳技術，將其應用於流行性感染疾病之檢測、物種親疏遠近關係之分析、院內群突發感染菌種之監測，建置與疾病管制署同一資訊平台，有利於日後相關資料的比對和確認。病毒研究方向為快速偵測、基因分型與定量分析，探討分子流行病學與親緣關係，瞭解病毒基因型變動及演化情形，提供預防策略的參考。

疾病與基因相關研究( 國科會計畫：馬偕兒童感染科紀鑫醫師)

重要研究成果為建置生物材料資源保存中心，保存10年間的細菌株共34368株、病毒株共23241株，提供醫學研究部、檢驗科、小兒部、感染管制中心和感染科等作為臨床及研究使用，亦提供院外單位如疾管署、三軍總醫院、榮民總醫院、國家衛生研究院和彰化基督教醫院等共同研究用。本實驗室利用保存中心之材料，除了確認菌株流行病學相關參數與抗藥性機轉外，也運用DNA圖譜分析軟體(BioNumerics)進行脈衝式電泳(PFGE)結果之比對與鑑識。病毒研究部份，對於小兒呼吸道融合病毒，分子流行病學之親緣關係和基因序列的演化分析亦有完整之探討。
